Over the last two years, we have undertaken a detailed technical review of the Woodsmith Project. This has identified enhancements to the engineering design that will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the project for the long-term.
Following a public consultation from October to December 2025, we have submitted a planning application which is focused on the amendments to the current approved development at Woodsmith Mine, and our sites at Ladycross Plantation, Lockwood Beck and Tocketts Lythe.
As the application proposals cross the administrative boundaries of both the North York Moors National Park Authority (NYMNPA) and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council (RCBC), the application has been submitted to both planning authorities.
The application is currently in the process of being validated and will be available to view on both planning authority websites within approximately two weeks. We will provide links to the application as soon as this has been done, as well as provide an overview of the documents and our proposals on this website.
As part of the planning process both authorities will undertake a statutory public consultation. When the application has been validated you will be able to submit your views, either in support or opposition to the application, or to seek further clarification. Each authority is mainly focused on considering the aspect of the project within their boundary.
We will also hold three community drop-in events if you would like to find out more about the application. The dates for these will be confirmed shortly. As always, we are happy to be contacted directly if you have any questions.
