Over the last two years, we have undertaken a detailed technical review of the Woodsmith Project. This has identified enhancements to the engineering design that will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the project for the long-term.
Following a public consultation from October – December 2025, we have now submitted a planning application which is focused on the amendments to the current approved development at Woodsmith Mine, and our sites at Ladycross Plantation, Lockwood Beck and Tocketts Lythe.
As the application proposals cross the administrative boundaries of both the North York Moors National Park Authority (NYMNPA) and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council (RCBC), the application has been submitted to both planning authorities.
This website provides an overview of the proposed amendments and the planning application, which you can explore in more detail using the tabs above.
The full application is available on Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s website and will soon also be on North York Moors National Park Authority’s website via the following links:

As part of the planning process both authorities are undertaking a statutory consultation. Using the links above you can submit your comments about the application. Each authority is mainly focused on considering the aspect of the project within their boundary.
We are also holding three community drop-in events if you would like to find out more about the application, and as always, we are happy to be contacted directly if you have any questions.
